La responsabilità sociale delle imprese è un tema che le aziende (non solo quelle di grandi dimensioni) non possono più permettersi di ignorare.
La crescente sensibilità di vasti settori della società sui temi ambientali, il sentimento diffuso di eccessive ineguaglianze sociali, il crescere di un ipercapitalismo che può apparire sfrenato e incontenibile, determinano una domanda di impegno delle organizzazioni a difesa dei diritti umani e dell’ambiente.
Il sentimento generale del “mercato” richiede che le aziende non si limitino a creare valore tramite i risultati economici, che quando sono positivi vanno peraltro prevalentemente a vantaggio degli azionisti, ma che dimostrino il loro comportamento a favore della società tramite la creazione di posti di lavoro regolari, il rispetto delle regole, la salvaguardia dell’ambiente ed in generale un impegno a favore della società nella sua accezione più ampia di comunità umana. Non si dimentichi inoltre come nel mondo globalizzato e iperconnesso di oggi ogni critica o passo falso commesso da un’azienda sia subito reso disponibile al mondo intero e possa comportare una immediata e pesante perdita di reputazione (nel campo del B2C) o una espulsione dalle catene di fornitura (nel campo del B2B).
A partire dagli anni ’70, numerosi modelli sono stati sviluppati in modo da fornire alle organizzazioni un metodo per dimostrare il loro impegno sociale, alcuni relativamente a temi specifici (es. sicurezza sul lavoro, protezione dell’ambiente) ed altri maggiormente integrati. Più recentemente, il concetto di “sviluppo sostenibile” si è imposto come paradigma prioritario, driver imprescindibile dell’immagine aziendale.
I modelli di CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) si basano sugli stessi tre pilastri di base del concetto di “sviluppo sostenibile” ovvero sostenibilità economica, ambientale e sociale e sono la traduzione di tale concetto nel campo di azione delle imprese. Come noto, lo sviluppo sostenibile consiste nel soddisfare i bisogni della società vivendo entro i limiti ecologici del pianeta e senza compromettere la possibilità delle generazioni future di soddisfare i propri bisogni.
La norma ISO 26000 è attualmente lo standard internazionale maggiormente riconosciuto per quanto riguarda la CSR o responsabilità sociale delle imprese. La norma NON è certificabile (a differenza ad esempi della norma ISO 9001) tuttavia è invalso l’uso di richiedere un audit indipendente ad un ente terzo. Coloro che intendono sviluppare un sistema di gestione sulla responsabilità sociale delle imprese possono senza dubbio affidarsi a tale modello che ha anche il vantaggio di poter essere comparato agli standard GRI.
Un elemento sostanziale nella dimostrazione della propria responsabilità sociale è dato dalla redazione del Rapporto di sostenibilità, un documento che, in estrema sintesi, riepiloga le azioni (e quindi i risultati) e gli obiettivi aziendali con riferimenti ai temi fondamentali della responsabilità sociale (vedi ISO 26000). E’ buona prassi indicare i risultati ottenuti tramite i corrispondenti indicatori secondo i criteri GRI (Global Reporting Initiative). Malgrado tale documento non sia espressamente previsto dalla norma ISO 26000, è indubbiamente un ottimo modo per dare evidenza all’esterno della applicazione dei suoi principi.
