The employer must inform all workers about the dangers to which they are exposed and instruct them about measures to prevent them. The employer also has the same obligations to workers from another company and to temporary staff.

If the employer wants to entrust a worker with certain tasks, he or she must provide him or her with appropriate training and further training and pass on clear skills and precise instructions (Art. 7, para. 1 ILO, Art. 7, para. 2 OLL 3).

The objective of safety training is to instruct employees on the precautions to be taken to ensure their own safety (and the safety of others) and to explain the preventive and protective measures to be observed, especially how to behave in certain cases such as an accident or an emergency situation.

The course, prepared by licensed Safety Engineers, covers the general topics specific to the risks of the processes that are usually carried out in steel mills and in particular the risks of the working environment, hazardous substances, and machinery.

The course can be delivered in an e-learning version (detached) or in the classroom and is structured in 5 modules of about 20 minutes each, with subsequent learning tests and exercises.

Module 1 : Introduction to steel mills
- Overview.

Module 2 : Hazard identification and risk assessment
- Injury hazards
- Health hazards
- Hazards of the working environment (fire, explosion)

Module 3 : Prevention and protection measures
- Safe work procedures
- Proper use of equipment and machinery
- Use of personal protective equipment

Module 4 : Emergency management
- Emergency scenarios
- Evacuation procedures
- First aid procedures

 Module 5 : Compliance
 - Applicable laws
 - Responsibility of Employers
 - Evaluation of conformity

The course can 'be tailored to your business reality and activity ; to do this we will also draw on the available information and photographic material.

Attention ! the course covered in this article is considered a first level or "introductory" course ; the course is not based on a prior risk assessment therefore it cannot go into the specifics of the risks present on a given site. It is specified that compliance with occupational health and safety regulations may require the provision of additional training such as training on job-specific risks, fire fighting and first aid, etc.
